June 29, 2016: TGIW: Unhumping Hump Day…Redirect Workout

It’s easy to classify others in our work and lives as ‘negative’ because of the way their thoughts or actions rub us.

But what about how we rub ourselves?

If asked, everyone would claim to be a positive person, as they perceive positive to be.

Yet, positive people have negative thoughts. It’s just what we do with them that matters.

Are we watchful observers over them, like kids outside about to get into mischief? Or do we follow their paths like lemmings, buying into their very convincing evidence?

It’s not the having of them. That will never stop. But the muscle of redirecting our mind once we notice them that is the one to develop.

Getting to that gym at least a few times a day builds stamina.

I recently heard a leader who has been at the forefront of people growing massively in their lives and careers describe what he saw happen to many.

They began expanding enormously, for one reason or another, and experienced success and abundance greater than they had ever known.

Yet often, within a year he said, they were right back at the level they had been before…where it was controllable, what they were used to, what they could manage.

It’s easy to talk big dreams and grand visions, yet the realization of them CANNOT be comfortable or pretty. Otherwise, they’re not big dreams or grand visions.

Some of us grew up in cultures or thought circles that supported guilt or regrets.

Feeling bad about events, roads taken or “mistakes” made and then wearing those energies like a badge was somehow acceptable, if not honorable.

But think about it: beyond perhaps a swift and compassionate apology — to ourselves or others — what good has a juicy guilt or regret ever done for you?

Sometimes the stars align and an idea who’s time has come erupts in power.

Sometimes no matter what the idea, the players who participate, nor the forces arrayed behind it…it flops.

The entertainment industry is replete with examples. Can you say Ishtar?

Sure, there’s always value in attempting to learn from a disappointment, and an appropriate grieving may be in order (5 minutes, 5 hours, hopefully not 5 years).

Yet the biggest play may be to get hoped up again.

New hope has the ability to move new mountains.

Face it: we all have certain habits, qualities or personal characteristics we wouldn’t mind shifting.

It’s easy to carp on those aspects, thinking we are too impatient, judgmental, stubborn, prideful, magical-thinking, people-pleasing…or whatever our imperfection drug of choice is.

Rather than focus on the perceived excess of those, what if we put our attention on the development of their antonyms?

Stepping out each morning with the intention to be patient, tolerant, open-minded, humble, realistic and true-to-Self will likely produce greater growth…and feel a lot better at the end of the day.

Given we get more of what we focus on, what antonym can you focus on today?

It seems there are two identities upon which we can focus.

There’s who we think we are now, based on our past, habits, patterns, thoughts and beliefs.

There’s who we are becoming, based on our goals, plans, dreams, desires and uncomfort-zone actions.

And yet, what if there is an “unbecoming” middle ground along the way, whereby all the logic of the head gives way to the intuition of the heart?

Where can you unbecome something you identify with so as to become who you want to be today?

Let’s make “That’s very unbecoming of you” a compliment.

The day begins. We have certain immediate thoughts as we awake. As good, bad or ugly are those thoughts, we start the day.

Maybe we take a moment to consciously create the day through managing our mindset.

Then, stuff happens. The email system isn’t working right. The traffic is exceptionally heavy. The dry cleaning isn’t ready as planned when we go out of our way to stop by. It’s taking way to long to complete a project, and we’re worried that the boss isn’t happy.

Life is happening. If our vibration attracts to us more of whatever we’re feeling in the moment, there are lots of opportunities to go south.

The challenge is how to constantly be aware of the pull towards a southerly direction… and then actively repoint north

The trajectory of our day is worthy of constant attention. What vibrational redirects can you keep in your kit bag and consciously employ?
