Launching The Career Campaign Creation Course!

By Darrell Gurney | Blog

Two folks I know somewhat (but have gotten to know better since) told me that, earlier in the summer, they both purchased my new book, Never Apply for a Job Again: Break the Rules, Cut the Line, Beat the Rest, and then sat down together in one of their homes one weekend for a whole 2 days of just going through the book, answering every question, doing every exercise, and creating each of their respective “career campaigns” from scratch! Their intention was to use the book and it’s principles to help expand each of their businesses (one in educational consulting, another in fitness and wellness coaching).

What is so cool is that they did this totally unbeknownst to me and only told me about it when they were out meeting with big-influence players and thought leaders in their respective fields. They were creating meetings with folks they would have NEVER met with otherwise! And out of these meetings (which is what the book is all about: how to connect and build relationships through “stealth”, research-based meetings), they were starting to nurture opportunities and create connections that was literally transforming the reality of their businesses.

I was so blown away that I thought “You know, lots of people read books…but very few actually activate the fullest potential of what they’ve read. So, I thought, “Why not set up a similar 2-day workshop where folks could really get a career campaign together and be implementing it when they walk out the door.

Therefore, I JUST created and launched The Career Campaign Creation Course! Check out the details…and get your seat!

Presenting to MBACSC Professionals

By Darrell Gurney | Blog

Today I was the guest of the MBA Career Services Council(MBACSC) for a membership-only webinar where I outlined not only the time-tested principles of effective networking covered in Never Apply for a Job Again: Break the Rules, Cut the Line, Beat the Rest, but also suggested ways in which these folks who help ensure that these MBAs get jobs can teach these principles to their students.

This was the most highly attended webinar they’ve had all year! And many have registered their students to take part in a series of FREE webinars I’ll be hosting for MBA students from across the country on Sept. 25 & 27. Details for interested schools can be found here.

These Directors of Career Services have a commitment to fulfill on the promise of the MBA by supporting their students to land. The best way to land is to have so many connections before you lower your landing gear that there’s nothing but runway everywhere you turn. The methods in this book help ensure smooth (and quick) landings!

Named “Networking Expert” for BeyondB-School.com

By Darrell Gurney | Blog

How fun! I was named the Networking Expert for an MBA-School focused site calledBeyondB-School.com. This site was created to bring top speakers and thought leaders to MBA students at schools where the budget might not allow for as many of these folks to come in personally. There are experts in a wide range of areas, and I’m proud to have this avenue in which to share the message with the business leaders of today and tomorrow that knowing and being known by those in positions of power and influence is the best career management technique on the planet (as spelled out in detail in Never Apply for a Job Again).

Turning Social Media Into Social Networking

By Darrell Gurney | Blog

Today a group of us presented a workshop for the MBA Career Services Council in Seattle. This is a group of professional Career Services Directors who run the career management offices of the nation’s (and world’s) MBA programs. My cohorts were Roy Young, CEO of BeyondB-School.com; Jennifer Vancil, Graduate Career Counselor for the MBA program at Colorado State University; and Michelle Hardy, Sr. Associate Director, MBA Employer Relations for the University of Texas McCombs School of Business.

The presentation was entitled “Turning Social Media Into Social Networking: Creating Door Opening Relationships Beyond Technology” and was all about supporting MBA students to use their unique status as a student to get out and connect with thought leaders and industry professionals so as to build the connections that land jobs through the stealth or “backdoor” method. Darrell’s presentation focused on the “10 Time Tested Principles for Launching an Effective Backdoor Campaign” from Part 2 of his new book Never Apply for a Job Again: Break the Rules, Cut the Line, Beat the Rest. The groups presentation received excellent reviews!
